In celebration of you, I wrote this poem and read it at last Friday’s celebration. I wanted to share it here again:

Celebrating You

We’re creating a party especially for you

To celebrate the effort you make all year through

You’ve been there for your clients on so many days

Navigating through the intricate telehealth maze

Covid increased demand for therapy sessions

With a big increase in anxiety and depressions

You’ve encountered conflicts, many so unexpected

Your own self-care might have been set aside and neglected

Who’d have thought couples would be fighting about vaccines

Or watching bombs and massacres on TV screens?

And marriages challenged by political division

Pressuring you to strongly provide positive vision

Your licensing boards and professional associations

Often focus on what you did wrong and petty violations

So as time has gone by it’s made me stop and think

Who really has the back of the hard-working shrink?

Pete and I often talk about the hard work you do

We thought, why not take time out to celebrate you?

Come for some fun, learn about positive strokes

Hang out and party with other professional folks

So take off your working hat and relax for some play

Have fun, knowing your clients aren’t going away

We’ll reflect on how special you honestly are

In our eyes, a real professional star!
