Differentiation is being able to bring up what you feel and want to your partner in a way that is not hostile, blaming or critical and then being able to hold still and handle it while your partner does the same to you.

It’s interesting to conceptualize how a highly individuated person ends up in a relationship that is not capable of more affective differentiation.
