In celebration of you, I wrote this poem and read it at last Friday’s celebration. I wanted to share it here again:

Celebrating You

Today we’ve created a party especially for you

To celebrate the effort you make all year through

You’ve showed up for your clients on so many days

Navigating through the intricate telehealth maze

Covid has brought an increase in demand for therapy sessions

And a significant increase in anxiety and depressions

You’ve encountered conflicts oh so unexpected

Your own self-care has often been set aside and neglected

Who’d have thought couples would be fighting about vaccines

And parents educating kids at home via computer screens

Conflicts in families about physical safety and vaccinations

Have resulted in many more hostile communications

Your Licensing boards and professional associations

Often focus on what you did wrong and petty violations

So as time has gone by it’s made me stop and think

Who really has the back of the hard-working shrink?

Pete and I often talk about the hard work you do

We thought why not take time out to celebrate you

So we are glad you are here for some magic and games

Joining in trivia about psych ancestors like William James

So take off your professional hat and relax for some play

Have fun knowing your clients aren’t going away

We’ll take a moment to reflect on how special you are

For in our eyes, you’re truly the best super star!
